Welcome to The Brown Therapy Group

We are a group of Psychotherapists who provide treatment for an extensive range of mental and emotional disorders using psychological techniques aimed to improve a person’s overall psyche. We work with adults of all ages, adolescents and children as young as four. All of our Psychotherapists are Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists with extensive training in counseling psychology.

What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a means of intentionally using various communication methods and techniques to alleviate a person’s distress and disability, and to improve their overall wellbeing.
This may involve individuals, couples, families and/or groups.

Who needs Psychotherapy?
There are many reasons why someone would seek Psychotherapy. Generally, these are situations or conditions that create emotional and psychological stress that interfere with daily functioning.  This can be in relationship to others (ie. family, friends, co-workers, associates), or difficulty with individual problems and concerns (ie. depression, anxiety, trauma, phobias). Although a certain amount of stress may be natural for an individual dealing with a particular life situation, occasionally it will develop into a significant problem making life difficult to manage.

There are many people who feel that they already have a healthy, and relatively balanced and successful life, but have a specific issue that they wish to resolve to help them feel more successful.

In addition, people often engage in Psychotherapy in order to improve their self awareness and attain a better understanding of their thoughts and behaviors. It is through this process that transformations may occur.

What are the different types of Psychotherapy?

To date, there are over 200 different recognized forms of Psychotherapy practiced throughout the world. Each has its purpose and each has a place. Many of these are quite effective at treating a large range of issues. Some forms of treatment like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy have even been shown to be as successful as medication when treating mood disorders like depression.

At The Brown Therapy Group we have Psychotherapists that are trained and specialize in many different approaches including:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on underlying maladaptive thought patterns and the way they influence our beliefs and behavior. Therapy tends to be problem focused and goal-directed.

Behavioral Therapy
Behavioral Therapy is a present based therapy that uses functional analysis to focus on replacing unhealthy reactions and self-destructive behaviors with healthier ones.

Interpersonal Therapy

Interpersonal Therapy works to improve people’s communication patterns and how they relate to each other by helping the patient identify their past emotions, where they are coming from and how they affect current mood and behavior.

Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems Therapy aims to work with the multiplicity of the mind and help the client discover and differentiate their true core “Self” from which they can help resolve their difficult thoughts and feelings and help heal the many parts of the mind that get in their way.

Humanistic-Existential Psychotherapy

It emphasizes “free will,” the ability to make choices that are not dictated by heredity or past conditioning in order to find our own unique meaning in life.

Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic Therapy is used to improve a clients self awareness by thoroughly exploring their past dysfunctional relationships and its unconscious influence on their present feelings and behavior in present day life.

Brief Therapy
Brief Therapy focuses on a specific present day problem and works on creating direct interventions to help create direct resolution.

Client Centered Therapy
Client Centered Therapy is a non-directive approach to therapy where the client sets the content and the pace of the therapy sessions while the therapist helps them explore and understand their feelings for themselves.

Couples Counseling
Couples Counseling helps couples and partners to resolve their differences and improve their overall ability to relate to one another.

Family Systems Therapy
Family Systems Therapy works with families to resolve dysfunctional patterns and nurture change in order to improve overall emotional health of the familial unit.

Multicultural Counseling is often used to help the client deal with a multitude of cross-cultural issues that arise between differences of values, lifestyle and beliefs of two or more cultures.

Play Therapy
Play Therapy is generally used with young children as a natural means for them to safely manage, explore and heal emotional and psychological trauma.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing uses a specific set of treatment protocols in order to help a client reprocess past, present and future trauma and distress.

Hypnotherapy uses the hypnotic trance and the power of suggestions in order to alleviate psychological, emotional or even physical discomfort and help the client to improve overall health and well-being.
